What types of variables are available in the Template Studio?

After you have uploaded your InDesign package into the Template Studio, you can choose between multiple types for your variables

In this first version of the Template Studio, we have four types of variables available.

  1. Single line
  2. Single line pattern

  4. Select

    • Label
    • Default value
    • Placeholder
    • Character maximum

Please check this article for more in-depth info on these settings and their differences.

Single line pattern

This variable also has one line, but you can set specific constrictions on what your users can enter. This can be used for variable text like phone numbers or dates. You can check out this article for more info on the patterns you can use and how to set them.

Multi line

This is a variable that consists of multiple lines of text. This can be used for two lines of a header, an entire page of text, or anything in between.

For this variable, you can enter the following (advanced) options:

    • Label

The variable can be used to provide multiple options for single-line text. Add as many options as you like, then select the default option. Upon opening the template, the default option will appear. The user can then select one of the options from the dropdown menu.

You can delete options and drag-and-drop them to change the order.
