How do I manage duplicate assets in the DAM?

Written by Justin Verhoeve

Finding and understanding duplicates

  1. Navigate to "Duplicates" in the left menu of your DAM.

  2. Review the dashboard that shows all detected duplicate files.

What each column means

  • Filename, shows the original file name of the asset.

  • Items, shows how many duplicate copies of the file exist in your DAM. For example, unicorn frappuccino.png may show 3 items.

  • Actions, opens a menu with tools for managing duplicates.

Note: The Items column helps you quickly spot which files need attention.

Resolving duplicate assets

  1. In the Duplicates section, locate the asset you want to review.

  2. Open the Actions menu.

  3. Select "Open duplicates" to view all locations where the copies are stored.

  4. Review the list to decide which version you want to keep or remove.

⚠️ Important: Before removing a duplicate, confirm that the remaining file is the correct and most complete version.

Tips for success

  • Check the Duplicates dashboard regularly to keep your DAM clean.

  • Remove outdated or unused copies to save storage and reduce confusion.

  • Keep versioning practices consistent so users do not accidentally upload duplicates.

  • Encourage teams to search the DAM before uploading new files.
