How do I use the Variants module in Product settings?

What is the purpose of the Variants module?

The Variants module lets you create multiple versions of a single product based on selected options. Instead of creating separate products, you work with one base product and manage each variant individually.

With the Variants module, you can:

  • Manage unique stock per variant

  • Set different prices per variant

  • Assign variant specific images

  • Configure advanced settings per variant using additional modules

Note: Each combination of options, such as Red and Small, is treated as its own variant.

How do I create a variable product?

You must choose the correct product preset during product creation to enable the Variants module.

  1. Navigate to the Products overview.

  2. Click "+ New product".

  3. Select "Product with multiple options (e.g. colors, sizes) and limited modules" from the "Product preset" dropdown.

  4. Enter the product name and default supplier.

  5. Click "Create".

⚠️ Important: You cannot add the Variants module later if the wrong preset is selected.

How do I configure variant options?

Variant options define how your product differs, such as color or size.

  1. Navigate to the product and open the Variants tab.

  2. Click "New option".

  3. Enter the option name, for example Color or Size.

  4. Click "New value" to add values such as Red, Blue, S, M, or L.

  5. Repeat for all required options.

Once values are added, Marvia automatically generates all possible variant combinations in the Variants grid.

How do I manage variant details?

You can update variant details either inline or by using bulk actions.

Common variant settings

  • Price
Click directly on the price field in the Variants grid and enter a value.

  • Thumbnail
Select multiple variants, click "Edit", choose "Thumbnail" as the setting to update, and upload an image.
This is useful for assigning the same image to all variants of one color.

  • Stock
Select variants, click "Edit", choose "Stock", and set a custom stock quantity.

  • Supplier
Select variants, click "Edit", choose "Supplier", and select a different vendor.
This overrides the default product supplier.

How do I use variant level modules?

Many modules that are normally configured at product level can also be enabled per variant. This gives you full control over how each variant behaves.

⚠️ Important: Variant specific behavior only applies when modules are enabled at the variant level, not at the main product level.

Supported variant level modules

You can enable any of the following modules for a single variant:

  • Files

  • Price

  • Stock

  • Workflow

  2. In the sidebar, click "Edit modules".
